Lighting Jewels

I don't know what it is about lights.... but I am obsessed with them.
To me, they are the jewellery of the home.
Aren't these beautiful? Just perfect for this kitchen.

What do you reckon, should I get some similar ones made?
... and add them to my growing collection in my shop?

Busy days. Thursday is the busiest... piano lessons and then soccer practice, after school.... 2 lots. We don't get home 'til late and then there's dinner and homework! Thank goodness Friday comes next!

Happy Thursday!

New Goodies For Cape Cod Designs

Have been shopping up a storm.

All these (and more) will be available from Cape Cod Designs over the next few months.

As you know, photos are prohibited at these dos.
I risked my life for these.

This beauty is over at my Cape Cod Bloggy already.

I have heaps more coming. Couldn't get everything photographed as my iPhone camera died. I fixed it via a "my iPhone screen is black" online forum last night. Phew.

After my big shop up, I spent yesterday afternoon and evening with my buddy, Linda, from 'The Gong'.

We have been friends since the late 80's, ever since I moved into the nurses quarters in Murwillumbah Hospital, after taking my first job out of Uni as the sole Dietitan at Tweed Heads Hospital. Linda was at one end of the nurses quarters, I was at the other. Boy, we had fun. We both confessed to going back there over the years, to see if was still the same, to catch a glimpse of the verandah, where we had all our French nights....to remember the fun.

Linda has called me 'Holly' for 24 years, as my room back then was rather floral (Holly Hobby). To Linda, and all her friends and family, I am 'Holly'. It was so nice to be 'Holly' again for one special night.

We hadn't seen each other in over 4 years so our reunion was rather loud outside Hall 1. We moved our noise to a gorgeous harbour-side restaurant and spent hours catching up, photographing each other, texting our friends with photos of us, sharing photos of our boys, friends and family, giggling, crying, philosophising. It was good for my soul. What would we do without real friends? Friends who are 'effortless' (stolen your word Loopy)... and loyal, who fiercely protect you, rally your cause and set you on the right course. Miss you in my daily life Linda. You give such great advice.

She'll be reading this saying, "enough, Holly"... and laughing at that very last sentence.

I'm off home today, to my gorgeous boys, who have been texting me saying that they've been good and that they've been doing all their jobs. Bless.

Happy Tuesday!

A Lighting Idea

Look at this great idea!

It's a row of pretty little lights in a new eatery near my local supermarket.... well actually the supermarket I drive over the bridge to now ......as the addicts sniffing the cleaning products in the cleaning aisle in my real local one frightened my boys.... real life lessons hey... I digress....

Anyway, they were still building the place so I stalked the workers and finally found the designer out the back pouring over plans. He told me the lights are made from old glass lamp bases. These are the bases the lamp used to sit on. The rest of the lamp was turfed. They must have gotten their hands on a heap of them.

I went back when the place had opened. Unfortunately the trusty ol' iphone camera didn't pick up the detail in them all. I should have asked them to turn them all off so I could take a decent photo. They were not all the same which made the row of them even more exquisite.

I am now obsessed and searching for old glass lamps!

Happy Friday.

The ships are comin' in! These gorgeous things have just arrived at Cape Cod Designs.
I have 4 left out of my shipment... and not enough room to store them in 'my lighting cave' ('the shed').... with hundreds of my Hampton's lights due any day now. Each one of these beauties takes up a pallet! The next shipment is not until next year. Who wants one? Email me at: a-m@capecoddesigns.com.au

Sidetrack

Total sidetrack I know ..... but look at these beautiful stairs. I had to share them with you. I found them in a shop in Melbourne. I felt a bit rude wandering in and practically saying, "look, sorry, not the slightest bit interested in your wares.... but I love your stairs". They were fine...actually delighted that I loved their stairs. So here they are.

I wonder what's up there? Love the wallpaper!... and the balusters stop my heart.

Ooh, and I found another 'lumiere', an industrial number, over HERE.
Ahh lights, the jewellery of the home. Sigh.

Lighting Heaven

Am tripping the light fantastique down here at the Design Fair in Melbourne. Well I am not really dancing but I am almost skipping.  Found some gorgeous, gorgeous glass lights. Available over HERE. Meeting lots of lovely new suppliers too.

Check out this fabulous modular bar. Made in the style of a turn-of-the century-travel trunk.

Couldn't you see this in a gentleman's study?

From one extreme to the other, from feeding the birds with Bill to swanning around all these beautiful things. Life is surreal sometimes. Do you know what I noticed here yesterday, at the fair? No one smiles. Everyone is so serious. C'mon people, you are surrounded by BEAUTIFUL things and happy exhibitors... smile, enjoy yourselves. I know retail is tough at the moment.... but...

I am off again today and meeting my 'Melbourne solicitor cousin' for lunch. She's crazy busy but she is dropping everything for one whole hour so we can gasbag and catch up. My brother is down here for business too.... so hopefully I might see his smiling face today before he heads home to his babies tonight.

My boys are ensconced down at their Grans for a few days. Besides school, they're finishing off their tree house, bouncing on trampolines and looking for fauna... please, no snakes boys. Guaranteed, I'll need the Napisan when they get home!

Thank you for all your wonderful, generous offers of art supplies for Bill. I am working through my emails so I will reply as soon as I can. Just want to make sure we don't double up. I took him some new graphite sticks last time I saw him. He couldn't get the packet open fast enough. He is going to faint when I bring him all your goodies.

I also want to make mention of the fact that I am so grateful for all your emails to me about your lives, your beautiful homes. I am sorry if I do not answer them immediately. I work on my emails whenever I get a spare moment. Slowly making my way through them so if you are waiting to hear from me, I'll be in touch very soon.

I'm off to scavenge for more pretty lights.

Dedicated

Look at what one of my lovely customers did to ensure my lights would fit nicely over her kitchen island bench. She made up templates! So dedicated. I was so impressed!

Speaking of lights, my end of June shipment is almost fully allocated so please email me if you wish to reserve some. They have been very popular and with a 100% 'superlative feedback' response from the last shipment I can safely say now that they are gorgeous (third party validation does come in handy when one is totally biased).

Pictures of them can be found HERE.

Happy Wednesday!

Told You

.. couldn't help myself. Actioned an order within 5 milliseconds of stepping off the plane. I'm such a sucker for a good light. How good would this look in a Great Room... stone fireplace, high ceilings, bookcases, piano....hmmm, or in a stairwell! HERE.
