Knitting Joy!

Sometimes I feel I am able to have one of those sweet and relaxed times without trying. Does that happen to you? Are they not the most rewarding and soothing instances possible?

I have been attempting to knit my Tasha Tudor shawl for oh, about 4 years now...well that is when I printed out the pattern and bought the wool. I have felt daunted by my lack of knowledge not only of how to knit but how to read a pattern.
You know all those little abbreviations that ACTUALLY mean a particular type of stitch that you have to interpret before you start knitting.

I had this project on my list for so long and it is on my list of works for the year, this year again.

Well I finally found the bits and pieces for it including the circular needles and when Bernadette was here last weekend, doing her Mary Poppins thing again with the children I asked her to help me get started. But seriously I only asked for her help  it because she had said she had started it herself and how easy it actually was to do.

So with a quick bit of help and looking up of this fabulous site: knittinghelp.com that has fantastic mini videos to actually watch, which is great for a hands on learner like me. I actually have made progress on my shawl..

What was equally wonderful was the afternoon I had the other day when I sat down to knit while listening to Inkheart on audio CD.

It was so pleasant to sit and knit while Arwen nodded off to sleep beside me and some of the older children played chess in the family room and listened as well.  Moran and Rogan were content to colour in and listen at the same time.

The feeling of contentment I had was similar to the afternoon I spent mending.

The simple joy of creating while still being part of family togetherness as we enjoyed yet another family favourite book series, Inkheart. How we have all enjoyed reading these books and it is lovely to be able to listen to them on CD as well.

I am so looking forward to progressing this shawl and due to my confidence for the first time ever I am going to try to knit some socks soon as well, which I have been dying to do forever.

I just had to share the joy I have experienced on this little bit of knitting I have done....it is wonderful to finally gain confidence on a new project that you have been daunted by for so long.

Hopefully a good lesson in perseverance for our children too!

Blessings to you and your homes,
